Dot Day

 What We Did:

On this day, we celebrate the international Dot Day! We started out by reading the book "The Dot" by Peer Reynolds. This books shares an amazing message of how creativity can have an influence on many other people. For our activity we all created different dots by using coffee filters and had different supplies to use like water colors, sharpies, crayons, and oil pastels. I used a white crayon to draw hearts and zig zag lines around the edges of the coffee filter, then went in with oil pastels and created a patterns around the edge to let it show through. After I was done with the crayons and oil pastels I took water colors and went over it. I almost went for a mix of a sun and a flower look.

Extension Activity:

After reading "The Dot",  I would have a discussion with the class about the different creative ways they may have been inspired. I would then ask them to take a piece of paper and cut out different sizes of circles to see how many they can create from one piece of paper. They would have the time to color, draw, or paint on the circles. Then I would give them a big piece of construction paper and have them glue on all the circles in a creative way. I would give each student the opportunity to share their reasoning behind their creative image and put them up somewhere.
