What We Did:
In this activity we learned about clay and the different ways one could work with it. For this lesson, we each got our own little section of clay to work with. The teachers walked us through step by step showing us how to fold it, then tossed it, and then we started to use the technique "pinch pot" to create a mouth shape. One of the requirements for this lesson was to add and subtract clay from our monster. I took extra clay to create eyes and a cookie. To add the extra pieces on we took a little bit of water as a glue. To subtract we used a pick and I created hair like lines in the back. Once our monster was placed how we liked, we got to choose a warm or cool color to paint the monster.
Extension Activity:
To extend this lesson, we could talk about science and learn about different extinct animals. After talking about and researching different extinct animals, then we could grab the clay and have the students create an animal based on one of the extinct animals they learned about.
