Safari Adventure

 What We Did:

In this activity, we got to create images that hide an animal. We started by creating red PVC sheet and construction paper glasses. These glasses are useful to see the animal hidden under the pattern. Then we took a light blue colored pencil and sketched our animal lightly upside down. This helps us not think about the image as much when we are drawing, instead we draw shapes. The animal I drew was a lion. After our animal was lightly sketched, we took warm colors to create a pattern to cause the effect of hiding the animal.

Extension Activity:

As an extension I would go into talking about safari animals and their habitats more. I would read the book "Way Far Away on a Wild Safari" and use binoculars to get the students engaged. This could lead to a discussion about the different animals. Once done reading and discussing, I would have the students write a short story. about their favorite safari animal.
