3D Design - Masks

 What We Did:

For this activity, we dove into thee history of African Masks and how they are used in their culture. Then we reviewed symmetry and the use of symmetry in the masks. To make this activity, we took construction paper and made a symmetrical design. The goal was to have three different 3D designs on it. We glued the 3D items on and then glued the whole thing onto a cereal box to make it stand up. As I was making mine a tiger came to mind with the orange paper so I made it out to be a Tiny Tiger.

Extension Activity:

I would have the students integrate Social Studies into this project. Their task would be to research another culture besides African American and how other cultures use masks. They would need to create a mask that represents their culture. Then the students would have to present to the class and share what they had found.
