What We Did:
In this activity, we learned about basket weaving and the history of where it originated from. We talked about all the different types of basket weaving and how they are used. To make this activity, we took a paper cup and cut an odd amount of strips into it. Then we took a choice of color of yarn and started a pattern through the slits. Once we got the amount of yarn wanted there was different materials to put on to decorate. I chose to make mine look like a chick with Easter coming up!
Extension Activity:
For an extension, this activity could be taught around holidays and you could tie it to the holiday that is nearest. To extend this activity one could teach this around Easter. For this to work well, it would be important to give bigger basket opportunities. With making the basket and learning the history it would be fun to watch the movie "Hop" while they make their big easter baskets.
