What We Did:
In this lesson we learned about a well known artist Vincent Van Gogh. As a class we talked about where his inspirations came from for his arts, and that is to be known as the people and places he was surrounded by. Van Gogh was known for documenting his life through paintings. As we learned about him we talked about his art style and how he shows motion through lines. For our project we started by tearing tissue paper and pasting them down with a type of acrylic paint on a piece of construction paper. I chose my color scheme to represent a sunset by using the pinks, reds, and purples. Then we took a piece of black construction paper to create a landscape. I chose to make snowy mountains to go over the sunset. We then took oil pastels to show motion in the portrait. I chose to make it like a snow storm with the same lines and swirls that Van Gogh was known for.
Extension Activity:
I would have the students group together to discuss their collage. Once they have discussed their collage, I would have them in the same group to create a new collage. With this new collage they would have to take a piece from each collage and create it in the new one. Then the students would have to write a description for their own personal collage, and the collage that they created with the group to turn in.
